Maybe as many people in the world …
What is your definition of happiness?
What are the different types of happiness?
What are the factors that make it important?
Personally, I believe there is only one person on earth that can make me happy. It is me, myself. I take full responsibility. No matter what is happening in my life, only I can make Me happy.

Different philosophers have had different definitions of happiness.
For example, Aristotle defined happiness as living the virtuous life.
That is certainly true, and I would say the necessary basis for happiness, but I would define happiness as a feeling of pleasure and harmony in the emotional self, based upon a perception that one is secure and loved, as I would distinguish it from pleasure which is merely good feelings in the senses, or joy which is a more rarefied spiritual type of good feeling (which incidentally, can co-exist with suffering on the physical or even the emotional level).

Many people think that if they were only in some other place, or had some other job, they would be happy. Well, that is doubtful. So get as much happiness out of what you are doing as you can and don’t put off being happy until some future date.

In truth, no one can ever make someone feel anything. Outside behaviours and influences have the power to trigger off negative thoughts but that can only happen if you allow it to. Change the way you respond to those triggers and consequently they can have no effect on inflicting any kind of misery upon you.

Remember, happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have, it depends solely upon what you think.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

“Success” is a meaningless term–it only suggests having achieved what you set out to achieve, which could BE happiness…or any of a thousand other priorities that may or may not be objectively quantifiable.

I think happiness is a secret motive of every human being, a motive which is subconscious, we aren’t ourselves aware of its existence. What ever we do, we want to do it right, be successful in it because it gives happiness to us.

The religion of course and the Buddhist explorations we made there, but also the great wealth of animal, bird and plant life. Plus a government that seems to truly protect it. Let’s hope so, for us all.
