How does the human intellect work according to Aquinas?

novemberlilly asked: why does Aristotle and Aquinas insist that “understanding” ( what Aquinas calls the intellect) is not a physical, bodily activity? how could one distinguish between the passive and active intellects? what is the Agent Intellect? what is the Agent Intellects relationship to the Divine Exemplars?
